(WDMS) was formed on April 21, 1985 to: Promote and improve the quality of donkeys, mules, and hinnies and related hybrids in Wisconsin. Develop and encourage good sportsmanship and fellowship in recreation and useful work involving donkeys and mules. Provide a forum for the exchange of information, products, and resources necessary and interesting to donkey and mule owners and enthusiasts. Assist members in improving their skills and knowledge of donkeys and mules, and their care, training, and handling. Educate and inform the public about the virtues and values of donkeys and mules for recreation and work, and to encourage a better market for donkeys and mules in Wisconsin. Cultivate friendly, cooperative, and helpful relations with similar groups. Own and/or lease property for club uses.	ABOUT MULES & DONKEYS Definitions Burro Small members of the ass family from Mexican and Spanish stock. Traditional height measurement unit for equine, taken at the withers Hinny Cross between a male horse (stallion) and a female donkey (jenny) Hybrid Result of breeding animals of different species. Horse + Donkey = Mule or Hinny. These hybrids are sterile and cannot reproduce because the horse has 64 chromosomes and the donkey has 62. Jack or Jackass The male of the ass family Jennet orJenny Female of the ass family John or Horse mule Common term for adult male mule Mare Adult female horse Molly or Mare mule Common term for adult female mule Mule Cross between a male donkey (jack) and a female horse (mare) Stallion Adult male horse Withers The prominent ridge where the neck and the back join. Height is measured vertically from the withers to the ground. Donkeys and mules usually don't have much withers.
